Endurance racing, dear to Arpiem with its "TSR" collections, enjoyed a golden age during the 80s with the Group C regulations. These were surprisingly simple: after defining a minimum weight (800 kg) and maximum dimensions, and specifying that the cars had to be two-seaters with closed cockpits, the rule was based on a limitation of the car's fuel consumption. That was it. Thus, there was total freedom in the choice of engine, displacement, supercharging, etc.

This space for freedom attracted many participants, and no fewer than 45 manufacturers built a Group C prototype (in category C1 or C2) between 1982 and 1992, among which we find Courage / Jaguar / Mazda / Sauber / Nissan / Peugeot / Porsche / Rondeau / Spice / Tiga / Toyota / Lancia / Dome…

9 manufacturers won at least one race. The most notable facts are as follows:

RONDEAU was the first winner of a Group C race in 1982 at Monza. It was only a trick by Jean-Marie Balestre, the President of the FIA, who maneuvered shamefully to offer the crown to Porsche, that prevented the French from winning the title that year… (politics, oh how you hold us…)
PORSCHE, which would remain the benchmark manufacturer of Group C, won no fewer than 42 of the 97 races contested during the period, including 28 under the iconic Rothmans colors, featured on the Arpiem GROUP C

Group C allowed for the creation of legendary cars that still generate just as much emotion among fans: the Porsche 956 and 962, the Jaguar XJR 9, the Sauber C9, and the Mazda 787B.

It died out for lack of competitors at the end of 1992, after a final period of Peugeot domination, taking the World Sportscar Championship with it. The latter would not be reborn until 2010 with the WEC (World Endurance Championship).

THE CASE of the ARPIEM Tribute is made of 316L stainless steel, synonymous with durability and strength. A water resistance of 10 ATM - 100 meters is offered.

THE DIAL: the shape of the sub-dials (the "pandas") is inspired by the pressure gauges of 1960s cars. The indices on the main dial represent the graduations of a tachometer.

THE MOVEMENT: the GROUP C is equipped with the Swiss RONDA Z50 movement.

THE DOMED SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL: this is the highest quality and most solid glass available on the market. Virtually scratch-proof (only by diamond), its domed finish gives the watch its "vintage" look.

THE TRIPLE-LAYER DIAL DESIGN gives the ARPIEM an elegant volume, which also recalls the "sandwich" alloy construction of racing car chassis before the advent of carbon fiber.

THE TACHYMETER: this has been revisited. Indices are usually arranged irregularly on the bezel. On the ARPIEM, they are placed in the style of diving watches, with speed provided for every 5-second marker on the dial.
